A second student at Rutgers University in New Brunswick was hospitalized & diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.
The first student had serogroup B meningococcal disease (MenB) & has been released from the hospital. Testing is being done to determine the specific type/serogroup of meningococcal bacteria in the 2nd student.
School officials and doctors are trying to determine if the two cases might be linked so anyone who had close contact with either student has been notified to receive antibiotics as a preventative measure. Vaccination is the best protection against meningococcal meningitis. If you feel sick you should seek the care of a doctor.
