Statewide legislation in Ohio now requires all 7th and 12th grade students to receive meningitis vaccinations before the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic school year.
The goal is to cut or eliminate bacterial meningitis cases to as close to zero as possible. In 2015, the Ohio legislature mandated that the Ohio Department of Health add the bacterial meningitis vaccine to required vaccinations for students attending state schools. Ohio now with some other forward looking states is requiring meningitis vaccinations to protect their vulnerable youth population.
