The National Foundation for Infectious Disease (NFID) is urging everyone to learn more about Meningococcal Disease.
This disease, though rare, is one of the most deadly bacterial infections on earth. Young people between 16-23 years of age have the highest risk, but anyone can be infected. Since Meningococcal Meningitis progresses so rapidly, the only effective defense is vaccination. As part of the National Immunization Awareness Month (August) the NFID has initiated a campaign to educate the public so they protect themselves from this devastating and often deadly disease.
