Lauren Briggs, 25 years old, developed a life-threatening case of meningococcal meningitis (septicemia) after spending an evening with a group of people in her friend’s hot tub in Essex.
Her right leg below the knee and the toes on her left foot were amputated, leaving her wheelchair-bound until she can learn to use a prosthesis. She’s been unable to work as a GP receptionist due to a severe speech impediment.
