Aleisha Derham would have been celebrating her 25th birthday this week but instead her family is mourning her death.
Days after arriving in London on a dream holiday in April 2013.\ Aleisha died from meningococcal disease – the W-135 strain. Jodie Wearne, Aleisha’s mother, said, “When Aleisha went overseas, the W vaccine wasn’t something that was recommended back then and I didn’t think there was a risk at all.” So now Aleisha’s mother and 21-year-old sister Tayla are appealing to young people to take advantage of a free ACWY vaccine in West Australia.
