Too many parents think that their teenage children are vaccinated against meningitis.
They don’t realize that the CDC recommended meningitis vaccine protects against only 4 of the 5 serogroups of meningitis. The most common serogroup, meningitis B strain requires a separate vaccination that only recently been approved by the FDA. So even if your high school or college age adolescents (ages 16 to 23) has had a meningitis vaccination, please contact your doctor and make certain that they have also had a separate meningitis vaccination that will protect them from the MenB serogroup. Don’t wait to vaccinate.
