Alliannah, a six year old, started vomiting & had a fever. Bianca & Hailey, her mother & aunt respectively weren’t too concerned as there was some “gastro” infections going around.
Alliannah became lethargic, turned away food and drink. Bianca noticed light purple blotches on her daughter’s stomach and that’s when she was rushed to the nearby children’s hospital. She was placed into an induced coma. Doctors told Bianca that her daughter “wouldn’t make it”.
With meningococcal disease, it is contagious for five to seven days prior to any physical sign of the disease. Alliannah’s family is pressing the importance of acting quickly. As Bianca says, “More people need to know about this and know that this can just happen and spread so quickly!”
