Gracie Foster was to undergo surgery to remove her tonsils at Chesterfield Royal Hospital in Oct. 2015 but she became unwell, surgery was canceled and sent home.
Three weeks before, Gracie brought home a letter from school informing parents that a child at the school had meningitis. Gracie’s mom, Michele had been concerned for the young boy involved but not worried at all for her daughter as they had little contact.
Michele said the consultant pediatrician didn’t order any antibiotics because Gracie had a viral infection. Michele added, “Dr.Ubhi looked at Gracie’s tonsils but did not conduct any further examination. Gracie was found to have died of Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome caused by a meningococcal infection.
