Due to an increase of patients affected by meningococcal disease, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is alerting healthcare providers to be cognizant of the symptoms which could range from but not limited to: vomiting, fever, headache, and rash.
The types of infections that can stem from meningococcal disease: meningococcal meningitis which affects the brain & spinal cord and meningococcal septicemia (aka meningococcemia) in which the infection has invaded the bloodstream.
