Meningococcal disease cases continue to climb in Florida with 39 people infected in 15 counties since late May.
Meningococcal disease is a bacterial infection that can be serious sometimes with debilitating consequences and can be deadly. Central Florida leads in the number of reported cases with 12 confirmed cases of meningococcal disease in Orange County among the 30-34 age group, followed by six cases each identified in age groups of 20-24 and 25-29. CDC officials have urged certain high-risk groups to get a vaccine against meningococcal disease.
