Gerard and Claire Rushton, whose daughter Courtney died at age 16 in 2014, ​brought a petition on behalf of the Meningitis Foundation to Parliament. They are urging the Government to extend the age band of those who qualify for it on the national immunization schedule.

The petitions committee may call for further information including from the Ministry of Health, and could decide to pass it on to another specialist committee, like the health select committee.
