Why are 500 deaths rare when meningitis is the cause?
Approximately 4,100 cases of bacterial meningitis and 500 deaths occur each year, between 2003 and 2007, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Anyone can get meningitis, but babies, teens and college-age young adults are at an increased risk. Meningitis is preventable through vaccines that have been created to protect the people we love.
