Several Strains

This is the sixth confirmed case of meningococcal disease in Tasmania this year.

A 66-year-old Hobart man being treated in the Royal Hobart Hospital is the first case of Y strain this year, last month a 16-year-old Hobart girl died from the W strain.

Director of Public Heath Dr Mark Veitch said, “Cases of meningococcal disease are slightly more common during winter and spring, but can occur at any time, in any place and affect people of any age.”
