Misdiagnosed

Meningococcal meningitis is so stealthy that even medical professionals sometimes misdiagnose the disease and fail to treat its victims until it is too late.

The cases where gravely ill patients are seen by a doctor, treated for a flu or bad cold and then sent home occur far too often.  When meningitis symptoms appear, there is frequently no time to stop the deadly progression of the disease.  This is further compounded by meningitis symptoms appearing to be a less dangerous illness before they foment and display life threatening final stages.  It is surprising though that with the relatively high occurrence of meningococcal meningitis in England that Tyler was misdiagnosed by doctors twice before he finally died.  Due to this, it becomes even clearer that vaccination is the safest way to protect people from catching meningitis.
