An undergraduate student of the University of Louisville (UofL) has been diagnosed and hospitalized with meningococcal meningitis.

The student is in good condition, resides in a UofL residential hall with a roommate who has not shown symptoms of the disease and is being treated prophylactically.

Bacterial meningitis is best prevented by these two vaccines. Both meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) and meningococcal Type B vaccine are licensed protection against meningitis. You need to receive both of the vaccines for a full protection.
