Lewys Crawford’s temperature remained high so his parents, Kirsty and Aidan decided to take him straight to hospital.
Clinicians failed to administer broad spectrum antibiotics until more than six hours after Lewys arrived at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) in Cardiff. The 13-week-old baby boy died the following day of meningococcal septicaemia (Group B).
His parents heard at an inquest into his death how he could have survived if he was given antibiotics at the earliest opportunity. Aidan added, “The failings that happened with Lewys that caused us to lose him we just want to make sure they don’t happen again.”
